This island offers a wide variety of leisure activities.  You can go on organised walks with a specialised guide, play golf or enjoy the pleasures of the sea on a boat trip, diving and game fishing. Many people who visit enjoy the simple pleasures of walking through the pretty countryside.

Funchal is the island's capital where you can explore the cathedral in the historic part of the town and the beautiful botanic gardens.

The archipelago of Madeira is of volcanic origin but unlike the other islands in the group are barren, Madeira is lush and verdant, boasting an exceptionally temperate climate and rich agricultural resources.

Madeira was discovered in 1419, by three navigators who afterwards received the archipelago as a reward: Bartholomeu Perestrelo (later father-in-law to Christopher Columbus) was made captain of Porto Santo, Tristão Vaz Teixeira of Machico and João Gonçlaves Zarco of Funchal.
